Friday Night Wheel Try-it Sessions 2023

Try pottery wheel throwing for a couple or a couple of friends! Always wanted to try pottery wheel throwing but don't want to commit to a multi-week class? Here’s your chance! No commitment or expectations. In this very intimate workshop with just two participants, you will get a demonstration and instructions, then it’s just you, the wheel, and the clay to make one or two pots. If there’s a surviving pot, we will trim and glaze it for you to pick up in a couple of weeks. Bring a friend or date and have a very relaxed evening making ceramic art! Considerations for wheel throwing: Pottery is messy. You could bring an old hand towel and apron or an old shirt. Long hair should be tied back for safety. LONG FINGERNAIL ALERT: Just be aware that there are limitations when throwing with long nails. Pots will be gouged or ruined. There is also a slim chance that a nail could become caught underneath the wheel and that would not be fun.
Christmas on the Plaza

Celebrate the holidays as a community at Christmas on the Plaza! We will have appearances of classic holiday movie characters, carolers, children's activities, visits with Santa and letters to Santa, hot chocolate, cookies, and more! Tree lighting will be at 5:30 and from 6-8 enjoy music by the local band Boulé. On the same day, from 5-8 enjoy the Luminaria Walk hosted by Danville Department of Parks and Recreation.

Danville Parks and Recreation invites you to celebrate the season with a candlelit stroll along the Riverwalk this December at the Annual Luminaria Trail Walk. Interact with characters from classic holiday movies, performed by Smokestack Theatre Company, or join in with roving carolers as they walk the trail. The Luminaria Walk can be accessed from the Main Street Plaza trailhead or from the other end at the Community Market trailhead. This event will be held in conjunction with the River District Association's Christmas on the Plaza. Join us for this free event on December 1 from 5-8 p.m. Call (434) 857-3384.
